Rapa Iti calling
French Polynesia could play host to the model region described by Dirk C. Fleck in the two equilibrism novels. The highest-ranking political bodies of the island Rapa Iti - the council of elders, guardians of the Earth, and mayor Tuanainai Narii - have invited representatives of our society and released an official statement, wherein they advocate a complete ecological change. They want this unique pilot project to become reality in their country.
The society's next step will be to send out an expert for renewable energy in the coming weeks, in order to develop a feasibility study for one of the » five foundations of life. The charitable society Equilibrismus e. V., with the help of sponsors and donators, is currently raising several thousand Euro to fund the study, travel costs and the necessary materials. So if you've been waiting for a concrete reason to contribute financially, you're very welcome to do so » now.
The expert's work will be supported by » equilibrism ambassador Roti Make, who lives on Rapa Iti. As well as that, every inhabitant will be asked their opinion on the project - including those who, for various reasons, have emigrated. "Along with the current inhabitants, they too should have a say in what happens in their home country", says Eric Bihl. After all, direct democracy is a part of the concept of equilibrism, and so it should play a part from the very beginning.
Fortunately, good news travels fast: The current issue of the German magazine "Schrot & Korn" is running a detailed article about the possible project on Rapa Iti. Aside from Rapa Iti, there are several more places, where such projects might be started. One of them is the independent island state Niue, which lies about 2,400 kilometres north-east of New Zealand. Initial contact with prime minister Toke Talagi and state secretary Richard Hipa has been established. At the end of last February, a representative of Equilibrismus e. V. travelled there on a research trip, examining the possibilities and participating in many discussions. An extraterritorial area on Iceland is another option and private islands are also a consideration for the small-scale model projects described in the equilibrism novels.
